Yes, folks. I really was behind the wheel of the 60's Batmobile... at the Hudson Valley Mall in 1989.

I have always been a diehard fan of Batman. He is my second all-time favorite superhero (behind Spider-Man of course.) I have a huge collection of Batman comics which I have collected back in high school. I grew up on the 60’s TV series as well as the 90’s cartoon series, which I still have some of the tapes from. I have also seen and own all of the movies. And, when I was 11 years old, I got to be behind the wheel of the Batmobile as you can see here. This was back in 1989, when the first “Batman” movie was the biggest movie of that year and Batmania was at its peak.

This Polaroid of me in the Batmobile was taken at the Hudson Valley Mall in Kingston, NY where the Batmobile (the one from the TV series) was on display. It was one of the first photos of myself that my friend uploaded for me onto the Internet for my various blog sites and my Myspace. This car is the third most recognized car in TV history (behind the General Lee and the Gran Torino from “Starsky and Hutch.”) When I got behind the wheel of the Batmobile, I felt like I was in heaven.

So why am I blogging about this? Well, last night at work, I was putting up some Hot Wheels cars in Toys and one of the new Hot Wheels cars I put up was the Batmobile from the 60’s TV series. So on my last break, I bought two of them (they’re only a buck at Wally World.) It brought the memories back.

So anyway, it is official. Monday, July 2, I am officially going to see “Transformers,” even though it won’t be at the Marquee in New Hartford as I originally planned, but instead I am going to the Little Falls Theater where I saw “The Matrix Reloaded” and “Dukes of Hazzard.” Either way, it is definitely going to be good. I can hardly wait.

  1. Hello Tim,You bring back memories with Batman, Spiderman. Quite a number of my blogs or poems come to me this is perfectly okay. I also remember the Dukes of Hazzard Starsky and Hutch.

  2. WHA-AT?! I thought I was the only Batmaniac around here! Actually, I call myself The Batmaniac as every fan knows, he was originally called The Batman by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. But, I’ll let that slide.Although for the life of me, I can’t figure out how you can rank Bats behind a whiney auntie’s boy like Peter (Gee-my-hot-wife- intimidates-me-so-I’d-rather-fight- Dr. Octopus-than-make-love-to- her) Parker! But whatever.I remember when I was a kid and it was still shameful to admit to being a Batman fan in a post-Adam West world, I had to feverishly defend him against Spidey fans! So I guess some things never change!Welcome aboard, I guess there is room for another Batmaniac. But I am still the “real” one!REX, The Batmaniac
